I don't seem to have quite the same problem. I can export a notebook or tree as a 'Text, Ms Word, RTF, or HTML file' but the result is always an rtf file. And it's invariably huge even when I say 'export text only'. For example, a small personal notebook of 1460 modest text items becomes a Word file ...
