MS is Going All in on ARM. Where Does This Leave MyInfo?

Post by cnewtonne »

Hi ...
As we all know, Microsoft (MS) appears to have a made a strategic decision to support Windows on ARM going forward. The entire latest generation of Surface devices are ARM-only. Today, if you go to any major retailer in the US to buy a Surface device, all previous Intel-based devices are gone. No more.

Furthermore, you only need to spend few minutes on an ARM-based snapdragon Windows to immediately and overwhelmingly notice the performance difference. I have never experienced apps open this fast, or virtual desktops switch with such nice animation. I have never seen this on an Intel-based Window PC.

And, of course, a Windows device with a battery that can last a day and half (for my own usage) is a breakthrough. Again, never before I have come close to this on an Intel device.

Intel is trying o catch up with their latest Ultra 2 chips (made by Qualcomm). Rumors indicate that MS may release some Surface devices using this chip, but for businesses only.

There is ample evidence that MS and Intel are on their way for a permanent divorce.

I have tried using non-ARM based app on arm-based Surface device using the Prism translation layer. Overall, they perform well and the user may not really notice a difference. I have not tried MyInfo, though. Regardless, Prism is not mean to be a long term solution. Ideally, developers need to port their apps to be native to ARM.

What's MyInfo's plan going forward? Are you planning on releasing an ARM-based native MyInfo?

Thanks
