This problem just started today. I start the program, it displays my opened databases and then freezes (Hourglass on cursor keeps spinning)
I closed the program, waited a few seconds, then ran it again. Same result
Rebooted, ran the program. Same result
Reinstalled MyInfo 8.5, ran the program. Same result
What else can I try?

MyInfo 8.5 Stalls 10 Seconds After It Runs
Okay, never mind. When I originally reinstalled MyInfo, I installed directly over the currently installed program. That didn't work to solve the problem
However when I totally uninstalled MyInfo, and then re-installed, that did solve the problem. Now I everything works okay
I'm not sure what was corrupted in my original install, but apparently something was. None of my notebooks suffered damage (phew!)

Since my original post, there was an update to MyInfo
I installed it over the prior version . . .and now the program loads, displays the open notebook . . . and stalls ("MyInfo Not Responding").
Initially everything was fine; I was able to add content to my notebooks. In both instances (my original post and this current post) I had multiple notebooks open. However, in each case it was a different notebook displayed at the time of the not responding
So I did uninstall-reinstall of the most recent version of MyInfo, and everything seems normal once again. Is there a fix for this . . . or is there a workaround?
I'm running Windows 11 pro with current updates applied

Okay. Today I got the apparent lock-up again, but looking at Task Manager I saw that data was being transferred at a rough average rate of 250 MB/sec. I concluded that maybe the apparent lock-up was really slow writing to my hard drive. So I didn't terminate the MyInfo 8 process; I let it run
Roughly 35 minutes later it apparently finished writing to disk and the lock-up ended. Functionality returned
So that has me wondering. The notebooks I use most often range in size from 2 GB to almost 7 GB. What is the maximum size a notebook can be before MyInfo experiences sluggishness like this?

It's likely the "Automatically backup" in Tools -> Options. Maybe combined with "Compact notebook when it will save more than X MB"
It's copying the file database files which can take a long time with large files. Splitting it into smaller database doesn't help much, if you keep all of them open + regular modifications.
Turning off Automatically backup solves the problem. Side-note: The default back-up directory isn't ideal either. It doesn't protect against drive failure, as likely copied onto the same drive. So it only protects against file-corruptions by MyInfo, or deleting something in the database which you regret.
So using a different backup solution is probably better

I compacted the largest notebook I had and discovered that it really took a long time to finish
So I went looking to see if I had automatic compacting set to on. I did. So every time MyInfo started up, if it detected a notebook could be compacted if more than 10 MB of space could be recovered, it compacted the notebook
I felt this pretty much confirmed what you were thinking
Anyway, thanks for putting me on the right track. I've disabled default notebook compacting for now, and I'll compact my notebooks manually for awhile. Eventually, I might reactivate the automatic compacting with a much higher value than 10MB. 10MB seems awfully small to me as a default
