Hi,

I have 8.5.1. and it seems it is not creating backups. I have the Backup folder setup correctly in Options and now setup for every 5 mins so I can see if it works but so far no go.

Obviously I am not doing something right.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

oz

I am surprised to find I also have this problem (Version 8.5.1 [8179]. Thank you, ozstar for the heads up.

This experience suggests to me the issue may go beyond user error.

Anybody else having this problem? I am not able to reproduce it so far - the backups were created in my tests..

Thank you for looking at this matter, Petko.

I uninstalled and reinstalled MI8, but still cannot back up anywhere, i.e. C:\, D:\ and \\NAS.

At the moment I am filling in with Acronis.

Kind regards.

No issue here. Except small glitch. If you modify the backup path and press 'Backup Open Notebooks Now' without restart in between the old path appears to be used.

A) Does the backup work if you press the 'Backup Open Notebooks Now" in Tools -> Options -> Save & Backup?
B) In case A works: what's the backup interval?

Thank you for your help, Telesto.

The answer to question A) is "No".

Kind regards

Thanks for quick reply. The upside: this makes testing a lot easier

To limit the scope
* It does happen regardless the default backup path or the manual path
* Windows 11 24H2
* Normal install I assume, based on "uninstalled and reinstalled MI8"

A possibility would be some kind of user profile corruption; I'm not totally sure if this being removed when uninstalling and reinstalling MI8. I guess the files being located at.
\Users\**USERNAME**\AppData\Local\Milenix and/or \Users\**USERNAME**\AppData\Roaming I think

You could also try the backup function in the portable edition. Saves the trouble of without fiddling with the current user profile.

I apologise for the delayed reply, Telesto. I've struggled to log-in to Support over the last two days.

I confirm all three asterisks in your last post.

I can also now confirm that the portable edition of MI8 will not back up to any location.

In my uninstall/reinstall I did not clean-up after uninstall. I'll now try that approach next to see if that resolves the issue. I'll report results soon.

Thank you again for your interest.

Kind regards

Hello Telesto,

Because I had collected a handful of minor performance irritations with my system, I did a full system reset (after two years). The exercise gave me a faster setup and resolved all the issues except MI backup.

I am unable to take this matter any further and will continue using my Acronis work-around.

Thank you once again for your interest.

Backup is working fine for me using a Virtual Machine with Windows 11H2 using the Trail version of MyInfo. So it's still a mystery :( .

What I did notice
1. Open MyInfo with some open Notebook (without backups
2. Tools -> Options -> Save & Backup -> 'Backup Open Notebooks Now'
3. Go to the Backup Directory -> Delete the content
4. Press 'Backup Open Notebooks Now' again (nothing happens). It does work after Exiting MyInfo and restarting

Another question: is the MyInfo backup directory part of a OneDrive sync or something similar?

I found the answer to my problem in your last remark about "syncing or something similar".

At some time in the past, after setting the backup location in MI, the relevant NAS folder became misnamed (transposition of letters). Consequently, MI backup was pointed at a non-existent folder. It seems I have eyes, but do not see.

I regret that my user error should have taken up your time, Telesto. Nevertheless, I am thankful for your patience and guidance without which I would still have an unresolved issue.

I greatly appreciate your help.
