The color pallette for foreground and background colors perhaps made sense when monitors were limited to 256 colors. It makes no sense these days to limit color selection to a selection of 16 garish colors, most of which are not terribly useful in a document.

I believe MyInfo should allow users to create their own color pallette, selecting colors from the built-in Windows color pallette. If there is a good reason to limit the number of colors to 16 colors so be it, but at least the colors would be useful to each particular user.

I agree completely, but if I understand correctly, the color palette will be expanded in version 4.

I agree and have said the same thing. I'm getting tired of hearing about Version 4. Seems like Version 4 is going to have everything I thought I was getting when I purchased the version I have. This is a costly little app for what it offers in the way of formatting. Why would I want to buy the new version when I haven't been able to get 3.59 to work properly?

I don't know. I've been using version 3.x for about a year and a half now and find it extremely useful. I'm looking forward to improvements in version 4, but if it never came out, I'd still keep using 3.6.

Pricewise? Well, fifty bucks for an app that I use over and over again every day does not seem too bad. If you look at the range of programs out there, I think you'll find MyInfo is in the midrange for price, but in the high range for features.

Bottom line, to each their own.

There is a trial version so you can KNOW what you are getting?

Generally, I highly advise to only buy a software based on current status of its development. If it lacks functionality you need, don't buy it just because you think it might be added, it's simple. Despite of that, all the time people just "buy in" into software that they can't use now.
Not buying what doesn't work for you, when it comes to software, is the only way to avoid disappointment.

To me it's not that costly when compared to other similar software, I think the price is just right (though I wish I wouldn't have to pay the d**n VAT).

I have chosen to use it against a specialized software for writers, that was even more lacking, at least in my book: they didn't have a way to use styles, MyInfo does.

On the other hand, MyInfo is not even marketed for writing, it's mainly marketed as a kind of PIM/personal database.

I hope I don't sound rough (due to my lack of English communication skills), as that wasn't my intention at all.
I have myself made quite a few mistakes of buying a software that didn't work for me, so I'm much more careful nowadays.

I choose MyInfo, after extensively testing other at least 20 other shareware PIMs (see below for sites on PIMs). Why are there so many choices? I believe the reason so many PIMs exist is that one's choice in a personal information manager is, well, highly personal.

I started this thread about colors because I wanted to provide the developer feedback on a feature that I felt sorely needed enhancement. Guess I was not alone. Having picked MyInfo to store my data I now have a vested interest in making suggestions to shape future development to meet my needs.

MyInfo met all my personal criteria for a PIM including: ability to open multiple files, indexing for fast searches, decent rich text editor with tables and styles, active product development and a good support community, and a mutual trust so that I don't need to rely on someone or some server to re-activate software that I already purchased.

MyInfo 3.6 isn't perfect but--given the available choices in PIMs at prices I was willing to pay--it was the best solution for storing data my way. Just don't buy it, or anything other PIM on the promise of what is to come. Buy it for what it can do to make you more organized and effective today.

Very well said, Woolly. I've sampled many personal information managers over the years, and there is not one that is perfect. MyInfo suits my needs better than any other I have tried, and I am looking forward to improvements that will bring more power and flexibility to configure it "just the way I like."

I tried out and purchased the previous version of MyInfo - after trying at least ten other information managers. Yes, I did know formatting was limited and decided to buy it anyway. I cannot claim to be an optimist but, given the world of PIMS out there, I did hold a little hope that improvements would be forthcoming. However, when I upgraded to 3.59 I began to have real problems. Petko, God bless him, tried to help me but it was impossible and I gave up. I just now downloaded 3.6 and "hope" I will be able to use it. I've been reading about version 4 and see no reference to formatting at all so I guess this was not one of the improvements.

I use Power Writer for writing. I do not care about styles. Mostly they just get in my way. My Info was going to be the place to store all my research. Yes, we all have different PIM needs. I would love a PIM cafeteria where I could go pick out the features I want and leave the rest behind. MyInfo has most of the things I would pick. I would just like to get it to work again.

Thanks for the website info. I had a great time digging through them all. I love shareware and though I didn't find the perfect PIM, I did find some interesting and useful freebie apps.
