V5.04pro - State display setting not persistent

In V5.04 pro I set the file-properties-appearance to display state icons. The setting effect is not retained from session to session. I.E. - I have to select the file-properties-appearance option tab and click OK every time I open a topic for the state icons to appear in the tree view. The status of the assigned state icons are retained but the tree display is turned-off when the topic is closed. The options remain checked as 'on' in the appearance options tab but have no effect until OK again clicked.
