Working with the attribute pane always leaves me with the feeling that too much space is wasted for this.

Wouldn't it be better to have this a least as a small horizontal pane below the text pane ?
Or maybe as a free floating panel that can be placed where ever ?
Even below the tree pane could be an option.

Any other ideas on this ?

Personally, I would like to see the ability to drag & dock the attributes pane. You could float it, dock it to the right, at the bottom, or (how I would like it placed) beneath the tree items pane.
