When I enter a date in a column, dates before 01-01-1955 appear as 31-12-2054 etc.
What do I do wrong?

This is the standard behaviour for entering years. If you want to enter earlier year, you have to enter it full, i.e. to enter 01-01-1934, enter all digits of the year, not only the last two.
