This is not possible currently.

There is no Insert Break shortcut currently.

You can do this by changing the Normal text style.
Go to Format > Styles dialog. Then select Normal in the styles list and change its Font and/or Paragraph settings.

I like the idea of gridlines for the treepane... but color and weight are going to be an issue. Light gray dotted makes sense to me, but it should go in the options.
