search/replace in the tree (as opposed to the pages...)

Post by d_robert »

I use MI primarily for documentation of files/projects at work. Typically an outline will have a tree that's really a long list of programs/files w/ annotation in the documentation pages/panes..dammit the portion on the "right". When i move from one computer to another (or from AIX to windows a long while ago) the paths all change..although the file structure of all the programs etc. stays the same. This is a long way round to saying i couldn't find an easy way to take, say:
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadallvars_071006a.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070515a.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070515b.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070515c.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070515d.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070516a.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070516b.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070516c.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070516d.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070516da.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_070516e.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_071014da2.SAS
D:\STUDIES\eps_study\jukic\triadsas\triadchk_071029a.SAS
which are all used/referenced as "topics" and when we were required to move our files to a different disk/root directory find an easy way to group replace "D:\STUDIES" with "F:\Projects\" in the extensive list of topic headings. I'm sure i'm missing something obvious..but i haven't found it yet....other than tabbing through, hitting F2 and manually changing the heading.
thanks, bob
because i think of "topics" as headings, i'm using them here generically to refer to the expandable tree on the "left" - though i've used MI for yrs, i have a hard time getting my head around the specific terminology used to describe MI...

David, I don't think that you could do this in any other way currently.

The only solution I can think of, is to insert the files as relative links (Tools > Options > Edit > Insert Relative Links when Possible). However, this will work only with files that are located on the same hard drive as your "My Topics" folder...

now, if i export the outline as an html file so someone else can read the documentation, they don't need the files themselves - MI will export the outline in the very handy website format.??
thanks

If you export the outline as a HTML page, the files will not be exported.
