inquiry - editing in filter view

Post by Crystal401 »

Petko,

Is this suggestion technically possible and something you could consider?

"Cut paste documents in filter view"

* Let's say there are 500+ documents and subdocuments in a tree all having specific tags
* There are 10 documents with tag "A" spread out all over the tree.
* I goto a filter view that gives me the 10 documents with tag "A"

feature suggestion:
* select those 10 documents with tag A in filter view
* Cut these 10 documents
* Goto Tree view
* Paste these 10 documents in specific location all grouped neatly.

Question:
Regarding a completed item in uservoice.com
"Allow selecting multiple items in Filter/Tag results"

I don't know why this one is complete.
* I have a filter view that has 10 documents.

How can I add a new tag to all 10 documents at once?
So far the only way I see it is to do it manually one by one.

Please advise,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Again stepping in, your post seems so familiar! I could have sworn to have read this years ago... which is to say, it's exactly this fluidity in tagging and re-tagging that we all urgently need, in order to have the feeling that MI is really assisting us in our everyday work... it's exactly these "work fluiditiy" questions I'm after before all other consideration. Of course, we must allow Petko to give us any intermediate enhancement to these things, in order to better advise him where, then, our subsisting needs lay; we simply cannot expect these "questions definitely answered" before version 6.5.

If Petko is listening, that's all we can ask for for the range 5.xxx - but I sign 100 p.c. of what you're asking here.

Hi Petko,

you must understand once and for all that I am NOT asking for the impossible! Please believe me! Why, then, am I asking so much? It's very simple: All those problems are intervowen in their technical realization, as be both know. And then, I do NOT want you to realize PARTIAL solutions to BIGGER problems: by fetching this and that simple problem out of the bunch, you'd risk to work days, perhaps weeks, at this or that partial problem, having to RE-DO your work afterward, in order to implement a bigger, more general solution where this partial problem would only constitute a minor part - "double work", then, or even worse, you could resume, well, to h***, I DID a lot of this work already, and for doing it better, I don't want to invest some more weeks!

Thus, I want to spare you 1 week of work here and there where the real work would be 4 weeks to resolve a bigger problem, but in a way that would have 20 times the effect of doing that single 1 week's work. Thus, I try to present a whole picture... whilst knowing it must come as a real burden to face all this "wanting".

Even partial tasks must be put into perspective, then, technically, to avoid to jump onto those, when in fact, more common thinking about them is the real way, then incorporating them as partial tasks into bigger realizations.

That's all, not the slightest patronizing intended, I take an oath on this.

Crystal401, I believe selecting multiple documents in the filter was possible at a certain point, I don't know why it is not possible currently, but I will investigate this.
